No sooner than Jack Dorsey officially announced Square—a credit card payment system for iPhones—rumors of Apple selling their own mobile retail solution for the iPod Touch have emerged. If you’ll remember, Apple’s solution consists of a hard type case for the iPod touch that has its own battery and can be used to swipe credit cards for customers. In Apple Stores, it is used as a mobile checkout system for customers, eliminating the need for cash registers that take up valuable floor space.

If Apple does indeed plan on selling it, there will certainly be some nice competition in the market. While Square appears to be extremely simple and small, Apple already has recognition as being a great brand,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and they wouldn’t have trouble finding partners for a system like this.

And if they do eventually release this system, it may be too late, as I’m sure Square is already gaining users each day and will most likely offer more customization.
